Da`wah: To whom and to what?

This article was taken from my IOU Tutorial Assistant Mr.Kamil Ahmads blog, may Allaah peace and blessing upon him. I just stated here in my blog for the importance of reminding myself and viewers of my brothers and sisters worldwide.

The title of this article may seem a bit odd to some. That is because the answers to these two questions are quite well known to anyone who is active in giving da`wah and teaching. However, I want to focus on something more important than the typical answers that may be given to these questions, as a reminder for myself and my brothers and sisters who are active in the field of giving da`wah and teaching.

What is Islam ?

Islam is an Arabic word and it connotes submission, surrender and obedience. As a religion, Islam stands for complete submission and obedience to Allah (God).

Islam, in fact, is an attributive title. Anyone who possesses this attribute, whatever race, community, country or group he or she belongs to, is a Muslim. According to the Qur'an (the Holy Book of the Muslims), among every people and in all ages there have been good and righteous people who possessed this attribute - and all of them were and are Muslims.
